We had another successful harvest this year, particularly with our Marquette grapes, which we will use to make Creekside Vineyards Old Bull Marquette, scheduled for release in 2012. We also enjoyed a first harvest on our Mars and Reliance table grapes, invited family and friends for a U-Pick of these yummy slip skins, and sampled some tasty grape jellies made from the Mars varietal. Perhaps next year holds a grape jelly making contest???
For those interested in viticulture, we have trained our vines using a Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) trellis system, a method that allows the vines to achieve optimum harvest parameters and, thus, high quality grapes for winemaking. We planted our first 2 acres in 2007 and have expanded our vineyard to 4 acres since then. Our 2,200+ vines consist of five grape varietals: Marquette, LaCrosse, La Crescent, Mars, and Reliance. The first three varietals produce wines for Creekside Vineyards Winery; the latter two are table grapes to be enjoyed seasonally by guests, friends, and family.
Persons interested in either part-time seasonal vineyard employment (May-August) or in being a part of our annual volunteer Picker's Crew should drop us an email at info@creeksidevineyards.com |
